Ten Ways to Make Me Leave Your Web Site or Squeeze Page

Sometimes, the best way to learn what works when marketing a product or service is to see what doesn’t work.  So, today, I thought I would entertain you with a  few of my own pet peeves when viewing web sites, and lead capture sites (squeeze pages). These are ten sure fire ways to guarantee I will never see what you have to offer.

Ten Ways to Make Me Leave Your Web Site

Ask me to wait while your page loads
I’ll be gone before you can thank me for my patience
Hey, this is 2010-we live in a world of high speed. Patience was a 90′s thing!

Highlight at least one sentence from every paragraph with yellow cyber-highlighter
It’s just so…Clickbank

Make me scroll through eight miles of text and testimonials before I get to the Buy Button or Opt In form
I will never see it. I’ll be gone before the last strike of your highlighter

Post images of hundred dollar bills, stacks of coins, or the mansion you do not live in
Dude, that’s tacky!

Tell me you know the Secret the Industry experts don’t want us to know
Bull! What you have is the same tired crap that has been floating around the Internet for ten years

Hit me immediately with a pop up subscription form
I close it, because it’s covering up the text I am trying to read. You wanted me to read your site, didn’t you?

Ask me to sign up for a free trial of the hottest business online today, but don’t tell me what the business is
C’mon, just a hint. Is it health related, beauty products, ebooks, wife swapping, what?

Tell me your product or business model is groundbreaking! Earth shattering! A paradigm shift!
Do you even know what a paradigm shift is? Go ahead, Google it…I’ll wait

Use that widget thingy that shows me how many people are signing up and will be in my downline if I join right now!
IF I upgrade to pro member before they do! (<– Insert fine print)
Exactly what are the odds of Jane Doe, Fizzypants, and Hdgf Nciuh upgrading to a paying member, anyway? Just curious

Tell me you only have 20, no 12, no…wait…7 copies of your ebook left
Really? You only have seven copies? Did you forget to save it onto your hard drive? Is the PDF file set to self destruct after the seventh copy is sold? When did Adobe introduce that feature-and why didn’t I know about it?

So, tell me, what are your pet peeves? What makes you close a web site before reading it?
Help others by sharing what works and does not work for you!

ha ha!! Some of those are my peeves too! Very good list! They need to stop treating us like we’re stupid. Most people are onto their tricks.
